U.F. Off: The Best Of The Orb This eclectic CD celebrates British ambient-dance group the Orb's first decade of existence. Whether you like your beats hard and fast or slow and gentle, "U.F. Off" has something for everyone, with each of the album's 12 compositions wrapped generously in the group's uniquely dubbed-out style. Orb aficionados will enjoy some new mixes of old favorites, while newcomers will be drawn to the timeless sunrise aura of "Blue Room" & "Pi
Rafi's Revenge - 7 years after their last release, former Black Dog members Ed Handly & Andy Turner finally put out a 2nd album. The duo's polyrhythmic soundtracks are now embellished with live instruments & the lush voices of techno divas like Nicolette and Mara Carlyle ("Rakimou"). Only now the songs offer much more in terms of listening experience. Particularly noteworthy is the quietly detailed collaboration with Bjork on the jazzy and warm "Lilith."
Aki Special - Throughout the late '70s Prince Nico Mbarga's delightful juju reigned supreme. It's easy to see why on the collection "Aki Special" Mbarga's particularly energized strain of juju is both stick-in-your-head infectious & gorgeously complex. The music translates traditional rhythms to sinuous, interwoven electric guitar/bass lines. "Aki Special"'s midtempo dance rhythms are hypnotic, but the highlight is that inimitable, entangled, & brilliant highlife guitar style
Mysteries Of Funk
- Grooverider drops a debut album worthy of his reputation, pumping life back into a much abused genre, drum&bass. This is hard funk, complete with rolling basslines wicked vocals and chunky breakz. While most of it centers around a jazzfunk sound akin to Bitches Brew era Miles, there is also the complex techstep that he is well known for and even some experimental sounds
Vegas
- Entering this U.K.-dominated genre are the Crystal Method, a southern California-based duo whose pulsating debut is alive with frenetic beats, sensual melodies, and the style's trademark squiggly sound effects.
Decksandrumsandrockandroll - Unveiling a smashing command of plugged-in beats, Propellerheads craft an ultra-concise crossover sound whose brute brilliance ensures it needn't apologize for its own populism. Utterly snappy and effortlessly inclusive, it zooms past crankier, knottier sources and antecedents ... erasing the memory of less slick stuff...
Living out Loud Dance With Me [SOUNDTRACK]
- This is the best music ever. I went to see the movie and I was dancing on my seat! Plus the CD has music that i don't remember listening to on the movie. You will dance till you drop and then just want to savor the music from Chayanne and Vanessa's song. A must have!
Michael Flatley's Lord Of The Dance
If you haven't seen the show, then just listen to the music and be transported to a Krypto-Celtic Ireland according to Michael Flatley and Ronan Hardiman. It's got everything that I like in a CD that wishes to be neither traditional Irish or totally pop/alternative...instead it's a great blend of both
