10 Reasons to be on the Internet
1. Get Information
Its the Information Age, whether you want to research for your school projects; shopping for the latest Golf Equipment; checking out your next holiday distination and travel arrangements; or looking up a disease of a hospitalized friend. The internet is the largest encyclopedia in the world.
2. Email
Email is the cheapest and most convenient long-distance communication tool. Parents can stay in-touch with their children in college 1000's miles away. Families can contact each other continents away. Sprouses can contact each other when travelling. Friends can send files or fax documents anywhere. All these on a local call connection via the internet network.
3. Entertainment
Many people start using the internet because they like to play games, especially the children. And there are no shortage of the number of shareware and freeware games - cheap !! Of course there are 1000's of other kinds of entertainment sites available; ie. the adult sites. Music, movies, travel, hobbies, or just about anything you can think of.
4. Computer
The heaviest internet users are still computer users, many are called geeks. Whether you are interested in computer programming, the latest software or hardware, intranet or extranet, computer languages..., the list is endless.

There are an estimated 100's of thousands of Usenet Groups on the internet - from Gardening, golf, to Sewing, to almost any subject, hobbies, or special interests that you can sign on as members to view or to post messages; or to participate in any activities, communicate or to network with each other.

Again there are 1000's of web sites that you can join to chat with others world-wide. Most are special interest, organizations, companies, or schools. Chats can be text based, many include sound, voice and video (with special software and hardware).

What other place better than the internet for job searching. Millions of companies have internet presence. Most jobs available on-line are of higher salary or positions. Many opportunities may never be available in your area of residence. Note: You may post your resume on a web page (with password protection, of course) for prospective employers to view.
8. Announcements
Having a family or School Re-union? Weddings, Birthdays or Anniversaries..., Why not post Photos, Voices, Videos of these special events on internet web sites. Families or friends oversea or across the contienent can see, hear, record and even print them. Some people post their biography, books, or poetry; others post memorandum and pictures of deceased family member.
9. Shopping
Buying on the internet is becoming main stream. In the last 12 months, product sales on the net has more than doubled to just under $1 billion US. With the consumer confidence increase, 1000's of internet malls, traditional companies coming on-line; the secured on-line measures in accepting credit cards such as visa, master card..., etc. Internet Sales is projected to be $120 billion US by the year 2000.
10. Enroll into Schools on-line.
Thousands of Universities and Community Colleges are offering courses on the internet. Great for busy people with jobs or if you lived in remote areas. Read books, new publications, newsletters or magazines on-line offered by 1000's of web sites. Most are available free of charge, others are subscription based, sent to your email address.
